UFC Rankings FAQ | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
* These rankings are not official, nor do they reflect any affiliation with, sponsorship, or endorsement by the UFC. The rankings generated by the UFC can be found here. | ||||
UFC Rankings are comprised of all fighters currently signed to the UFC. RankingMMA has been publishing UFC rankings since 2006.
So, how do we compile our rankings? What separates us from other web sites that formulate rankings? We are the only source that uses computerized analytics rankings system & actual fight footage to determine rankings similar. The reason we do this is to avoid ranking bias. By using analytics, fighters are scored no matter their popularity or hype. From there, tiers are created and fighters are ranked from within those tiers. Here is the rankings criteria that encompasses a fighter ranking: There are many fighters sporting undefeated records from developing fight scenes, especially abroad. Something we take into consideration is the strength of competition they have faced. If a fighter has compiled a bunch of wins against competition that is lackluster they will likely have a difficult time moving up in the rankings until they face stiffer competition in order for us to accurately predict how they would perform against exceedingly tougher competition. If a fighter has fought elite competition and fallen short, we factor in how they performed. If a fighter fairs well against a higher-ranked adversary, they could still move up in the rankings. Actual fight footage is reviewed, regardless of promotion in order to formulate our rankings. = Fighter moves up in the rankings after recent fight Reasons a fighter is ineligible for UFC Rankings |

Hi Damon, Thanks for the comment. Big props to all you do at MMAweekly. I was able to make the updates you suggested by finding references for everyone but Krauss and Mina. I think it’s safe to presume Krauss’ retirement, but Mina not 100% sure. As we all saw recently with Matt Wiman (5-year absence) and Jarjis Danho (5 years), I would hate to remove a fighter from the roster without confirmation. If you can find me any link, would be glad to update the site.

Where are Leon Edward’s and Santiago Ponzinhibio in the welterweight rankings?
7:59 AM
Both were removed from the rankings due to inactivity. Fighters are ineligible after 15 months of inactivity. FightMatrix is 450 days, while the UFC is supposed to be 12 months, but they rarely uphold that. At the bottom of each rankings page, I do list the fighters currently ineligible due to suspension, inactivity.

As of today, Leon Edwards technically hasn’t fought for more than 15 months. According to your site’s system doesn’t that mean he should be ineligible for rankings? Or are you making the timeframe a bit longer than usual due to covid? (I am just curious, not hating)

Hi friends, a couple quick notes to help you out here:
1) The 2nd “Abubakar Nurmagomedov” on this list (#67) is actually Gabriel Green
2) Zelim Imadaev has been released
3) James Vick has been released
4) Jeremiah Wells is missing a photo

Man you missing Santiago Ponzinibbio that ranking is messed up as well . Do more research.

The reason he is missing is he has not fought in over 15 months, which is a requirement to be ranked. Ponzinibbio’s last fight was on 11/17/2018.

I think that Riddle (and Rivera at Bantamweight) should be out of the rankings until they fight next even though their suspension is over.
It looks to me like Riddle’s last win over Clements is taken into consideration, if it’s a NC it should be treated as such.
Just my opinion, keep suspended fighters non-ranked until they fight next.

Hmm, good point. I did remove Diaz, Shields, Leben, and Overeem, but those were longer suspensions.

Good win for Mike Pierce, i thought Simpson’ corner could have done better to settle him down between rounds, tell him to reset and do same again, not get sloppy, but Mike Pierce is definately a gate keeper, the only guys he lost too are top guys.I hope i’m not wrong about Silva though and he’s only a couple big wins away from a title shot.
9:17 PM
I still think Pierce should cut down to 155. It is obvious that he is carrying some extra weight around the midsection and his lack of height and reach does not help him one bit. I’m not sure if I’m ready to label Pierce a gatekeeper at this point. He’d have a decent shot at avenging his losses to Koscheck or Fitch if they were to face off again. Should of, could of though, and you are right, at this point Pierce is sitting on the outside of the top contenders list.
As for silva, if he beats Fitch, it’s going to be a race between him and Rory MacDonald to see which prospect claims a title shot first. Considering GSP is still welterweight champion, we will likely see Silva claim that future shot if he can win his next couple of fights.

I may have been wrong about Silva, but i wasn’t wrong about Fitch i’ve always had him top 3 in my rankings. should look at moving Silva down now to around 15 maybe you think? and Demian Maia up. i have Maia at 11 but my rankings look a lot different to yours,i have Fitch and Koscheck higher and Condit and Kampmann lower and of course i still have Diaz and Penn in my top ten.

Maia got a nice boost in the rankings and will hopefully face off with Fitch next. As for Erick Silva, he put on a good performance and his stock did not drop much. I still have him ranked behind a solid grappler like Pierce, but ahead of Story, Alves, Akiyama, Kim, all of whom are struggling or coming off losses themselves.
I do find some merit behind your Fitch and Koscheck ranked above Condit and Kampmann statement. It all had to do with timing. Fitch and Kos were struggling with injuries and recent losses, while Condit and Kampmann struck while the iron was hot. Do I think Fitch would beat Condit? It would be a great fight that I would be slightly leaning towards Fitch to grind out.

Erick Silva could be ranked higher and Mike Pierce lower.
10:54 PM

I agree, Silva is a future star. If he can get past Fitch, Silva should skyrocket into the Top 5. Pierce’s only losses in recent years have been close decisions to Fitch, Hendricks, and Koscheck. Pierce below Thiago Silva or Rick Story could be debated, but Story is still trying to bounce from his loss to Brenneman. Dong Hyun Kim, Aaron Simpson, Akiyama, etc. could all leapfrog Pierce with a signature win, but the entire welterweight division has been in neutral for the last few months.

Dude, your rankings are awesome and realistic, some people don’t understand that fighter rankings aren’t just “who I think is better, there’s a lot of “who beat who” other stuff coming into consideration.
Don’t pay attention to any of the haters, people who have a problem with your rankings should try maintaining their own ranking lists and see if they can do a better job.
No one is forcing them to use yours.

I moved Brenneman down this week, feeling that Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann deserve a bump up comparing their recent fight history with Brenneman, Story, Alves, etc. Brenneman may not have won pretty, but he won and knocked off one of the fastest rising stars in the 170-pound division.

None of the above comments make sense, i think the rankings here are almost a hundred percent right, Kampmann is not ahead of Koshchek, Brenneman deserves to be at where it is, and why would anyone care about the 25th place and under? your lame
