UFC Rankings FAQ
* These rankings are not official, nor do they reflect any affiliation with, sponsorship, or endorsement by the UFC. The rankings generated by the UFC can be found here.
UFC Rankings are comprised of all fighters currently signed to the UFC. RankingMMA has been publishing UFC rankings since 2006.

So, how do we compile our rankings? What separates us from other web sites that formulate rankings?

We are the only source that uses computerized analytics rankings system & actual fight footage to determine rankings similar. The reason we do this is to avoid ranking bias. By using analytics, fighters are scored no matter their popularity or hype. From there, tiers are created and fighters are ranked from within those tiers.

Here is the rankings criteria that encompasses a fighter ranking:
– Most recent performance
– Performance against top competition
– Estimated ability against future competition
– Strength of competition
– Activity in the last 3 years
– Last 5 fights

There are many fighters sporting undefeated records from developing fight scenes, especially abroad. Something we take into consideration is the strength of competition they have faced. If a fighter has compiled a bunch of wins against competition that is lackluster they will likely have a difficult time moving up in the rankings until they face stiffer competition in order for us to accurately predict how they would perform against exceedingly tougher competition.

If a fighter has fought elite competition and fallen short, we factor in how they performed. If a fighter fairs well against a higher-ranked adversary, they could still move up in the rankings.

Actual fight footage is reviewed, regardless of promotion in order to formulate our rankings.

= Fighter moves up in the rankings after recent fight
= Fighter moves down in the rankings after recent fight

Reasons a fighter is ineligible for UFC Rankings
= Inactivity over 15 months
= Changing weight classes. A fighter must debut in their new weight class in order to officially be ranked there. Upon their debut, they will be removed from their former weight class. If the fighter temporarily competed outside of their division, they will be ranked in their primary division unless the fighter states different.
= Suspension. Should a fighter be suspended for performance enhancing substances or fighter conduct, they will be removed from the rankings.
= Info Needed. A fighter has signed or re-signed with the UFC, but have yet to officially fight in the UFC.

The Raoni Barcelos & Timur Valiev fight was so close and probably could have been a draw with a better judging system. With that being said, Raoni can’t be at 14 after the loss to Valiev and Valiev can’t be that low, imo.
Raoni has that win over Said Nurmagomedov, so I think you put Valiev & Raoni above Said Nurmagomedov. These rankings have always been the most accurate rankings I can find.I know how confusing they can be at times though so thanks for the hard work!

Bollinger is a solid fighter. I had him in my Top 25 prospects prior to him signing with Bellator. His fight with Shamhalaev was surprisingly one-sided, but the move down to 135 lbs. should be a good career move for him.

Since Bollinger participated in a Bellator tournament he is no longer eligible to be ranked in the “Prospects” section. With a couple of wins though he should be able to make some noise at bantamweight.

Ok,your rankings are more about who’s next in line for a title shot, that’s ok i don’t do it that way i think bowles has seniority until mcdonald beats him or someone ranked ahead of him. and jorgensen above pickett? going back to his WEC victory.

Pickett above Jorgensen is something that I looked closely at. Wineland’s KO of Jorgensen definitely shuffled the rankings up. I feel that Pickett deserves to be ranked above Wineland at this point, thus creating the current hierarchy of Pickett<Wineland

McDonald shouldn’t be ahead of bowles, jorgensen, and pickett at this stage, you may be proved right, but rankings shouldn’t be done on potential.

McDonald’s win over Miguel Torres gave him just the boost to move up the rankings. Bowles, Jorgensen, and Pickett are all stuck in a slump against high-level competition. Meanwhile, McDonald is undefeated with a finish win over Torres.

Bowles is still an elite bantamweight, but his recent loss to Urijah Faber was one-sided. Meanwhile, McDonald took a huge step up in competition against Torres and knocked him out in the 1st round. I was not a big believer in McDonald until that win. Bowles just needs to stay healthy and he should be right back in the title picture. Until he does though, he is ranked lower McDonald.

      why is Miguel Torres above
      Demetrious Johnson?

also is Cole Escovedo actually 6-2 in the ufc or is that an error?

Escovedo was 6-2 in the WEC, thank you for catching the error.

As for Torres above Johnson…they just fought at UFC 130 and Johnson escaped with a controversial decision. Many have argued that Clay Guida was just gifted a decision against Anthony Pettis because all he simply did was hold Pettis down and inflicted very little damage, while Pettis attempted relentless submissions. Though similar scenarios, the Johnson/Torres fight was much tighter and Torres was the one who was looking for the finish, and also delivered some punishment from the times he was on the bottom. Sherdog and MMAjunkie though Torres should have gotten the nod. Therefore, Torres won’t drop in the rankings based on questionable judging. Just like Evan Dunham’s loss to Sean Sherk, Tyson Griffin’s loss to Nik Lentz, Paul Taylor’s loss to Sam Stout, and countless other fights that have been judged to an unfavorable result.

All of our rankings take into consideration the actual fight’s action, rather than just the end result. Otherwise, we’d basically just go on Sherdog’s Fight Finder and go strictly off wins and losses, which wouldn’t be very accurate. We rely heavily on play-by-play details of events and the fighter’s actual performance to determine how a fighter will be ranked following an event, rather than being swayed by judges’ decisions.

What do you think? Would you rank #7 Johnson above #5 Torres and #6 Pickett(who Johnson lost to)?
