UFC Rankings FAQ
* These rankings are not official, nor do they reflect any affiliation with, sponsorship, or endorsement by the UFC. The rankings generated by the UFC can be found here.
UFC Rankings are comprised of all fighters currently signed to the UFC. RankingMMA has been publishing UFC rankings since 2006.

So, how do we compile our rankings? What separates us from other web sites that formulate rankings?

Here is our rankings criteria:
– Most recent performance
– Performance against top competition
– Estimated ability against future competition
– Strength of competition
– Activity in the last 3 years
– Last 5 fights

There are many fighters sporting undefeated records from developing fight scenes, especially abroad. Something we take into consideration is the strength of competition they have faced. If a fighter has compiled a bunch of wins against competition that is lackluster they will likely have a difficult time moving up in the rankings until they face stiffer competition in order for us to accurately predict how they would perform against exceedingly tougher competition.

If a fighter has fought elite competition and fallen short, we factor in how they performed. If a fighter fairs well against a higher-ranked adversary, they could still move up in the rankings.

Actual fight footage is reviewed, regardless of promotion in order to formulate our rankings.

= Fighter moves up in the rankings after recent fight
= Fighter moves down in the rankings after recent fight

Reasons a fighter is ineligible for UFC Rankings
= Inactivity over 15 months
= Changing weight classes. A fighter must debut in their new weight class in order to officially be ranked there. Upon their debut, they will be removed from their former weight class. If the fighter temporarily competed outside of their division, they will be ranked in their primary division unless the fighter states different.
= Suspension. Should a fighter be suspended for performance enhancing substances or fighter conduct, they will be removed from the rankings.
= Info Needed. A fighter has signed or re-signed with the UFC, but have yet to officially fight in the UFC.

Hi Nazeem, Gustafsson announced his retirement following his last fight. If he does announce his return, he will be back in the rankings.

Hi Derek, I do my very best to update rankings within 24 hours of a UFC fight card. On the homepage, I also have a date stamp, so it will be easier to know when rankings have been updated. Thank you for the comment!

    Quick questions …

    1. How did Gus fall from the #1 contender’s spot (i.e. ranked #2) with Glover doing worse than him in the title fight and Rashad not exactly shining and beating top contenders?

    2. What is the “Finishing Percentage” since it’s clearly not the % of wins by finish – For instance, Gus is 13/16 for a 81.25% finish rate, nor the % of his fights that didn’t go the distance – Gus is 14/18 for a 77.78%. Those are the only two things I could think of that fit, what have I missed?

Lawlor vs Latifi is at MW. As such neither should be listed on here.

Both have it at MW. But you are right that many sites list it as LHW. Weird.

The UFC’s top 10 rankings are just pure BS.

Glover #4??? Yeah, he’s a scary potential contender, but how can he be ranked above Rashad?? His best win is James Te-Huna!!! Rashad just beat Dan Henderson!!!

I totally get why you guys use the UFC rankings as your top 10, but I have to say I liked it better when you did the top 10 rankings too. They made much more sense than the UFC rankings (which are more future marketing based than actual track record based).

I know it has been mentioned in a few interviews, but there is still no certainty. If you have a link that says so, please let me know.

As of now Kyle Kingsbury, Paul Taylor, Shane Carwin, Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Tim Credeur, and Matt Serra are all rumored to be retired, but none of them to my knowledge have come out and stated they are officially retired.

Yup, not only as a contender, he’s also ricking his employment … I think if there were a tad more depth in the LWH division these days he’d be out of there … Not many fighters can boast a L-NC-L-NC record in their last 4 fights …

Fighters that come back from suspensions are generally a bit more careful, at least for a while … I guess he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed … or maybe having the childhood he did, left him with some self-destructive demon that he can’t deal with … who am I to judge?

The difference is Glover has a ground game. Manuwa still has a ways to go with his takedown defense. Glover does seem a bit high because he hasn’t beat a top name yet, but the mid-level LHWs are all struggling (Bader, Rampage, Forrest, Lil Nog, Thiago Silva).
